Faversham Furnished With First Place WinFaversham Swimming Club swept to victory at the recent Ashford Development Gala held at Mote Park Leisure Centre, Maidstone. Faversham’s swimmers produced some outstanding performances and were consistently breaking personal best times. Their Squadron team led from the start in the opening 12 x 25 metre breaststroke relay race, with no less than seventeen top first place wins to follow. Twelve year old Georgia Collins wowed the crowd with her daring dash in the girls 12 years and under 50 metre backstroke, stopping the clock in a personal best time of 40.83. Georgia’s perfect performance earned her a speeding ticket, or badge of honour, for exceeding the entry time as specified by the Amateur Swimming Association. Young Joe Wall’s superb swim in the boys eleven years and under 50 metre backstroke, touching home in a time of 42.59, also earned him a well warranted speeding ticket.
Swimmers securing 1st place were the 12 x 25 metre breaststroke Squadron relay team, the 9 years 4 x 25 metre mixed freestyle relay team, the 11 years and under 4 x 25 metre mixed freestyle relay team. Kia Drake girls 9 years 50 metre freestyle, Eva McIntyre girls 9 years 50 metre breaststroke, Ruby Scott girls 10 years and under 50 metre butterfly, Jack Wimble Roberts boys 10 years and under 50 metre backstroke, Emily Holt girls 11 years and under 50 metre breaststroke and 50 metre backstroke. Georgia Collins girls 12 years and under 50 metre freestyle, Olivia Hawkins girls 12 years and under 4 x 25 metre individual medley, Poppy Boorman girls 12 years and under 50 metre breaststroke, Joseph Russell boys 12 years and under 50 metre butterfly and the 4 x 25 metre individual medley. Flora Westlake girls 15 years and under 50 metre breaststroke, Marty Boorman boys 15 years and under 50 metre breaststroke, Lydia Scott ladies 18 years and under 4 x 25 metre individual medley and Ben Collins men’s 18 years and under 50 metre backstroke.
Second place wins were awarded to the 10 years and under 4 x 25 metre mixed freestyle relay team, the 12 years and under 4 x 25 metre mixed freestyle relay team, the 12 years and under 4 x 25 metre mixed medley relay team. Kia Drake girls 9 years 50 metre backstroke, Eva McIntyre girls 9 years 50 metre butterfly, Jamie Spice boys 9 years 50 metre freestyle, Harry McKenna boys 11 years and under 50 metre butterfly. Olivia Hawkins girls 12 years and under 50 metre butterfly, Joe Wall boys 12 years and under 50 metre breaststroke, Rebecca Crouch girls 15 years and under 50 metre backstroke, Marty Boorman boys 15 years and under 50 metre freestyle and Tom Guthrie men’s 18 years and under 4 x 25 metre individual medley.
Swimmers scooping 3rd place were the 10 years and under 4 x 25 metre mixed medley relay team, the 15 years and under 4 x 25 metre mixed freestyle relay team and the 18 years and under 4 x 25 metre mixed freestyle relay team. Samuel Hawkins boys 9 years 50 metre backstroke, Ruby Scott girls 10 years 50 metre backstroke, Molly Stemp girls 11 years and under 50 metre freestyle, Flora Westlake girls 15 years and under 50 metre butterfly and ladies 18 years and under 50 metre breaststroke. Molly McKenna girls 15 years and under 50 metre freestyle and ladies 18 years and under 50 metre freestyle, James Guthrie men’s 18 years and under 50 metre freestyle and Marty Boorman men’s 18 years and under 50 metre breaststroke.
Other swimmers who participated from Faversham were William Guthrie, Richard Ellis, Nicola Crouch, Ben Wall, Oliver Nye, Lauren Scott and Blaine Ramsden. Head Coach Sharon Wenn acknowledged the hard work put in by the swimmers and commented “Well done Faversham on your first place win, a fantastic result. My congratulations go to Georgia Collins and Joe Wall for achieving your speeding tickets. We had some very good swims. It just goes to show what we can do with a full Squad line up”.
The final points placing’s were 1st place Faversham on 272 points, 2nd place Folkestone with 240 points, 3rd place Dover 233 points, 4th place Ashford 218 points, 5th place Black Lion 213 points and 6th place Hythe 168 points.
