Swimmers present a show at the Arden Theatre
Faversham Swimming Club recently held their Annual Presentation Evening at the Arden theatre, Faversham. Swimming members and their families took their seats as the Club Chairman Mr. Andrew Pearce welcomed everyone along to the evenings presentations. The Swimming Club was grateful to the Mayor of Faversham Cllr Anita Walker for presenting the swimmers with their awards, assisted by the clubs President, Mrs. Sally Robertson.
Certificates and trophies were presented to swimmers who participated in the Age Group Championships, held over a number of days in May. The Championships included the fast paced Skins Knockout event. Super charged Lydia Scott snatched 1st place in the girls event with Joanne Hawkins taking 2nd and Emily Westlake sprinting home in 3rd place. Steadfast Tom Pearce grabbed gold for the boys with Ben Collins claiming a well deserved 2nd place, Tom Guthrie touched home in 3rd place.
Club colours were awarded to swimmers who had presented Faversham Swimming Club at one of more gala events during the year. New club colours for 2011 went to Chloe Bullard, Olivia Hawkins, Olivia Holland, Emily Holt, Harry McKenna, Dervla Murphy, Oliver Nye, Ruby Scott, Lauren Scott, Holly Smith and Jessica Smith.
New Water Polo Colours for 2011 were presented to Andrew Kinch, Ollie Grauers, Daniel Bonthuys, Nick Bonthuys and Paul Cheatham.
Faversham Swimming Club are very proud of the dedicated swimmers in their Synchronised Swimming Section and recognised Emily Ing as the most improved beginner by presenting her with the Beginners Shield for Synchronised Swimming. The Vinten Trophy for merit and endeavour in synchronised swimming throughout the year was awarded to Abi Collins. This years Vinten Shield, presented to the synchronised squad member of the year, was jointly won by Megan Walton and Chiara Marchini. This award is chosen by the trainers for the team member who has shown commitment, good attendance, team spirit and for enhancing the name of synchronised swimming.
Stephen Taylor won the well deserved Junior Water Polo Player of the year trophy. Whilst the Water Polo Most Improved Player of the Year trophy was awarded to Andrew Kinch. Oliver Grauers held his head high on winning the Water Polo Player of the Year award and James Perkins couldn’t believe his luck in receiving enough votes from his fellow players and being awarded the Players Player of the Year trophy.
The Bulbeck Trophy was gratefully received by young Olivia Hawkins, the cup is awarded to the swimmer aged 11 years and under who has shown the most improvement and endeavour during the previous year.
James Guthrie stood proud as he collected the Guy Gibb Trophy as the most improved swimmer throughout the year.
Ruby Scott was all smiles after being awarded the girls Higgins Trophy, this is awarded to the girl of 11 years and under who has gained the highest number of points from all spheres of swimming within the clubs normal programme. Second place winner was Poppy Boorman and 3rd place was jointly won by Molly Stemp and Lauren Scott.
The boys 11 years and under Higgins Trophy was won by William Guthrie, Joe Wall claimed second place and Richard Catton was awarded with 3rd place.
Marty Boorman was the swimmers favourite as he collected the John’s Cab’s Squad Swimmer’s Swimmer of the Year Trophy and Lydia Scott was the favoured person for the girls trophy.
The Neame Trophy is awarded to the club person of the year, for services to the Swimming Club throughout many years. This year the award went to Colette Aylen who, although not present at the presentation evening, was duly awarded the trophy during a club swim session with the entire squad raising the roof with their cheers.
The Swimquip Trophy was awarded to the club team with the most overall points, Dolphins were proud to accept the cup for the third year running with 1292 points, Seals scooped second place with 729 and Otters were 3rd with 574 points.
The club held a raffle throughout the evening which raised £86.00, donations were gratefully received from Simplyswim, Shepherd Neame, Tesco, Macknade Fine Foods, Leeds Castle, Faversham Swimming Pools, and Morrisons.
