Sisters Are A Hard Act To Follow
Faversham Swimming Club members returned home with a mass of medals from the recent White Cliffs Open.
Swimming sisters Rebecca and Nicola Crouch were both on top form, the girls snapped up two medals a piece. Ten year old Nicola Crouch snatched 6th place in the girls individual medley in a time of 1.39.40, her powerful swim in the girls 9/10 years 50 metre breaststroke earned her another 6th place medal and a new personal best time of 50.36. Nicola’s thirteen year old sister Rebecca equalled the tally of medals with a 6th place win in the girls 13/14 years 50 metre freestyle in a time of 32.93, another 6th place win was on the cards for Rebecca in the 50 metre backstroke in a time of 39.28.
Faversham’s other sister act scooping medals were Lydia and Ruby Scott. Fourteen year old Lydia grabbed a bronze medal in the girls 13/14 years 50 metre freestyle in a time of 31.19. She also took 5th place in the individual medley (1.18.34), Lydia’s performance earned her a place in the gruelling skins knockout tournament where she finished in 5th place. Nine year old sister Ruby bagged bronze in the girls 9 years 50 metre freestyle in a new personal best time of 39.08.
Faversham’s boys were also on top form with fifteen year old Ben Collins seizing silver in the individual medley (1.17.95). This dynamic dash gave Ben a place in the skins knockout event, where the crowd were treated to a spectacular show of strength from Ben who stood proud after taking 2nd place. Another silver medal was awarded to Ben in the 15 years and over 50 metre freestyle in a time of 30.98. He snapped up a bronze medal in the boys 15 years and over 50 metre butterfly and acquired 4th place in the 50 metre backstroke.
Fourteen year old Marty Boorman scooped 6th place in the boys 13/14 years individual medley in a personal best time of 1.23.30 which earned him a place in the marathon skins competition where he again took 6th place. Ten year old Harry McKenna had an outstanding Open as he took 4th Place in the boys 50 metre butterfly in a time of 48.77.
Other swimmers from Faversham who participated in the Open, many of which also gained personal best times, were Lauren Scott, Jasmine Locke, Lily Jarvis-Keysell, Richard Catton, Blaine Ramsden. Joe Wall, Molly Stemp, Molly McKenna, Flora Westlake, Joanne Hawkins, Alice Searley, Poppy Boorman and Emily Holt.
Clubs partaking in the open included Canterbury, Ashford, Herne Bay, Dover, Thanet, Hythe, Margate and Folkestone.

The masters section do compete in local galas and open meetings when there is enough interest.
