Improver's Grab Gold At Debut Gala
Faversham Swimming Clubs Improver team returned home triumphant from the recent Beachfield Learn to Swim Invitational Gala.
All of Faversham’s swimmers were competing outside of the club for the very first time. The Gala was designed to bring local Swim 21 Learn to Swim clubs together, competing in the spirit of a fun and friendly competition. The crowds were treated to some spectacular swims from Faversham’s finest, as they continually collected a mountain of medals throughout the evening.
Young Morgan Goldsmith scored a hat trick of personal best times during her Gala debut slicing seconds off her races. Morgan finished the 25 metre freestyle in a time of 23.75, she competed in two backstroke races touching home in a time of 23.03 and 25.50, she also competed in various mixed relay events.
Abigail Sowrey entered no less than four races which included determined performances in the 25 metre breaststroke (27.72), butterfly (27.06), breaststroke (29.06) and a personal best in a further breaststroke race in a time of 26.41.
Harrison Scott also bagged three personal best times with his sprints in the boys 25 metre freestyle (21.41), breaststroke (35.03) and backstroke (26.78). Thomas Bennion was all smiles after snapping up personal best times in the 25 metre freestyle (16.53), breaststroke (24.38) and backstroke (20.52).
Faversham’s other competing swimmers showing grit and determination were Lily Locke in the girls 25 metre freestyle (21.10), Backstroke (27.66 and 26.31) and butterfly (PB 26.78). Megan Millsted freestyle (23.00), breaststroke (PB 31.60) and backstroke (PB 25.28), Niah Stemp freestyle (26.25), breaststroke (33.78 and 31.40) and backstroke (28.78), Amy Coupe freestyle (PB 19.06) and backstroke (PB 20.75), Iona McGinn freestyle (18.22), breaststroke (25.47) and butterfly (22.00).
Joshua Wilkins 25 metre freestyle (27.47) and breaststroke (PB 39.66), Max Bushell breaststroke (PB 37.53) and backstroke (PB 28.84),Nathan Williams breaststroke (PB 31.78) and backstroke (PB 22.19), Patrick McIntyre breaststroke (PB 28.97 and 35.18). Samual Mitchell freestyle (PB 23.82) and backstroke (PB 26.84), Toby Marshall freestyle (18.90), Charlie Campbell butterfly (17.47), Ewan Murray freestyle (PB 22.18), James Clements freestyle (PB 17.37), backstroke (PB 21.44) and butterfly (20.62), Michael Zaccharini backstroke (PB 18.07) and butterfly (19.59).
The teams Head Coach, Jane Hawkins, acknowledged the hard work put in by the swimmers and commented “I am extremely proud of everything the swimmers achieved including twenty seven personal best times. All of the swimmers swam very well at their first Gala, we are so proud to bring the first place shield home to Faversham and will now be focusing on the Kent Development Gala in November”.
The final points placing’s at the Gala were Faversham in first place with 316 points, second was Beachfield on 268 and third was Gravesend with 256 points.
