Sun shines for synchronised champs

Faversham Swimming Club’s Synchronised display team held their annual club championships recently. The evenings fair weather drew a large crowd of spectators who were treated to some fine performances from the enthusiastic swimmers.

Three team routines were performed to a selection of music chosen by the girls. The clubs up and coming junior team have only been together for a couple of months and were showing a lot of  dedication and determination in all of their performances. The junior team included Emily Ing, Lauren Scott, Molly Stemp and Ruby Scott.

The clubs intermediate team include sisters Georgia and Nicole Collins, whilst the second half of the team are sisters Nikki and Sarah Fish. The senior team comprise of Abbie Collins, Chiara Marchini, Georgia Harlow, Kay Rigden and Megan Walton.

The swimmers also performed some very complex individual routines which involve a high level of co-ordination to enable them to complete the chosen routines.

The under elevens beginners had to perform an Oyster, Tub and Back Tub Somersault. Juniors were asked to perform a Front Tuck Somersault, Back Tuck Somersault and Bent Knee Alternate. The Intermediate performers produced a Ballet Leg Single, Back Pike Somersault and Front Pike Somersault. The Senior girls level of difficulty was very high during their routines including a Blossom, Walkover Front and Flamingo Position.

The Championships overall results included the Beginners Under Eleven Waterman Shield being awarded to Emily Ing with a points total of 56.39, 2nd place was Molly Stemp with 55.60 points, 3rd place went to Lauren Scott on 53.54 and Ruby Scott collected 4th place with 53.09 points.

The Juniors Cup was awarded to Georgia Collins on 53.83 points. Older sister Nicole scooped 1st place and collected the Intermediate Cup on 54.64 points, whilst Sarah Fish took 2nd place with 54.18.

Megan Walton’s beautiful performance in the Senior section earned her 1st place on 56.41 points, whilst a dual in the pool took place for 2nd place and was narrowly won by Kay Rigden on 55.30 points, Chiara Marchini was close on her heels and settled for 3rd place with 55.21 points. 4th place went to Abbie Collins on 54.60 and Georgia Harlow was pipped to the post and took 5th place with 54.35 points.

Young Megan Walton collected the Solo Shield for her magical performance which gave her a 1st place points total of 85.69, 2nd place winner was Emily Ing on 84.35 points. Chiara Marchini produced a magnificent performance and scooped 3rd place on a very close 84.26 points. 4th place went to Molly Stemp on 82.63 and Lauren Scott collected a 5th place win on 81.10 points.

The Duets Cup was won by Megan Walton and Chiara Marchini on 84.56 points whilst Kay Rigden and Georgia Harlow settled for 2nd place on 83.24.

Trophies and shields were awarded by Faversham Swimming Club’s Chairman Mr. Andrew Pearce who congratulated the competitor’s on their impressive performances.
