Saturday saw a team of Faversham squad swimmers representing
their club at the Black Lion Development gala. The children all represented their club with pride and showed great
commitment to swimming their best and working together.
There were lots of top three positions gained by the swimmers, including a first for
Molly Fordyce in the 9 year girls 50 m breaststroke, a first for Nina Connell
in the girls 50m breaststroke and first for Ellie Waller in the 15 years
Freestyle. There were five super speedy
swims and speeding tickets were awarded
to Harry Miles, Ethan Sharman, Eva McIntyre and Scott Pearce.
The swimmers showed great team spirit in a variety of relay
races, starting with the 10 X 1 length breaststroke squadron relay where 5
girls and 5 boys worked together to gain a 4th place overall. A huge well done to them.
There were a number of PBs swum throughout the afternoon
with Keira Drury, Joseph Dickinson and William Roe being the youngest swimmers
to break their previous times, all swimming in the 9 year category.
Two trophies were awarded within the Faversham team. The Tesco Star award went to Mazie Kilgannon. This was Mazie’s first gala outside of
Faversham swimming club and despite being incredibly nervous, she showed
amazing team spirit in overcoming her fears and swimming with her team mates as
part of the relay teams. The second
trophy, the Tesco Shield went to Joseph Dickinson, who, because of several team
absences due to injury had to swim an incredible number of races and did so
with enthusiasm and determination.
Overall, the swimmers made the coaches very proud and gained
157 points and an overall placing of 5th.
