Swimmers make waves in Canterbury 

Eight of Faversham’s elite swimmers made waves that rocked the oppositions boat at the recent Canterbury Open.

Deadly duo Rebecca Crouch and Tom Guthrie both sent two of Faversham’s  records crashing, Rebecca’s astonishing performance in the girls 200 metre backstroke event stopped the clock at a record breaking time of 3.01.93. Whilst Tom Guthrie clipped two seconds off the current boys 200 metre breaststroke record, finishing in a time of 2.59.63.

Young swimmer Olivia Hawkins shed tears of joy after beating her own personal best times in the girls 50 metre freestyle and backstroke events. Olivia’s sensational backstroke performance earned her a well deserved silver medal position. Silver medal was also awarded to Lydia Scott in the girls 12 years 50 metre freestyle in a time of 32.19. She also claimed a well earned bronze medal in the 50 metre breaststroke (43.60).

Faversham’s elite eight were Joe Wall, Richard Catton, Olivia Hawkins, Flora Westlake, James Guthrie, Rebecca Crouch, Lydia Scott and Tom Guthrie.

Head Coach Sharon Wenn said “ This was a very high level Open, so to come away with two second places and two third places was very pleasing “.

Personal Best times were achieved by Joe Wall boys 50mtr breaststroke (51.53), Olivia Hawkins girls 50mtr freestyle (38.38) and 50mtr backstroke (42.29), Flora Westlake girls 50mtr breaststroke (43.90) and 200mtr breaststroke (3.30.39). James Guthrie boys 50mtr freestyle (33.68), backstroke (40.45) and 200mtr individual medley (3.06.57), Tom Guthrie boys 200mtr backstroke (2.43.35) and 200mtr freestyle (2.26.09).

FAVERSHAM SWIMMING CLUB RECRUITMENT POLICY

Volunteers/Helpers:  All members, parents and friends of the club will be actively encouraged to assist in the running of the club.  Information regarding help needed and contact details will be displayed on the club web site, notice board and newsletter.

Teachers/Coach:  Assistance with funding to help gain qualifications and further training will be given wherever possible by the club.  Information and contact details will be displayed on the club web site, notice board and newsletter.

Swimmers:  Information on how to join Faversham Swimming Club will be displayed on the club web site and notice board.  Information regarding the clubs activities and contact details will be made available via the clubs Schools Coordinator to the local schools, Dolphin Swim Scheme and teachers of swimming schools at local pools.

Committee Members:  Faversham Swimming Club Committee to be elected annually in accordance with the clubs constitution.  Eligible members may be proposed for election provided they obtain a seconder.  All vacant posts will be displayed on the club web site, notice board and newsletter.  Any posts not appointed by election will be filled by the committee by co-opting members directly approached.

Wherever possible a change over period between outgoing and incoming Volunteers and Committee Members will take place to help ensure the continued smooth running of the club.
