Joe Wall caught speeding in Canterbury 


Faversham Swimming Club’s squad of swimmers returned home with their heads held high after clinching fourth place at the recent Ashford Development Gala held at Kingsmead Swimming Pool in Canterbury.

Young swimmer Joe Wall collected a speeding ticket in his 4 x 25 metre individual medley race with a personal best time of 1.43.99. Whilst speedy Rebecca Crouch was awarded a ticket in her 4 x 25 metre individual medley dash in another personal best time of 1.28.44.

Speeding tickets ( or badges of honour ) are awarded to swimmers exceeding the entry times as specified by the Amateur Swimming Association.

The Tesco Gala Star award of the night was presented to Oliver Nye for his winning performance in the 9 years 50 metre freestyle event. The Tesco Gala Shield was received by Lydia Scott for showing stamina and determination in all her races throughout the tournament.

Swimmers awarded with first place wins were Oliver Nye boys 9 yrs 50 mtr freestyle, Molly Stemp girls 10 yrs and under 50 mtr breaststroke (Personal best time of 54.31), Sam Harlow boys 10 yrs and under 50 mtr backstroke (P.B. 48.25) and 50 mtr freestyle, Cordelia Sigurdsson girls 11 yrs and under 50 mtr freestyle (P.B.37.42).

2nd place winners were the 10 yrs and under 4 x 25 mtr mixed freestyle relay team, the 12 yrs and under 4 x 25 mtr mixed medley relay team, the 11 yrs and under mixed freestyle relay team and the 11 yrs and under mixed medley relay team.
Molly Stemp girls 9 yrs and under 50 mtr breaststroke, Joe Wall boys 9 yrs and under 50 mtr butterfly, Richard Catton boys 10 yrs and under 50 mtr breaststroke (P.B.56.62) and Sam Harlow boys 11 yrs and under 50 mtr freestyle.
Rebecca Crouch girls 12 yrs and under 50 mtr backstroke, Lydia Scott girls 15 yrs and under 50 mtr breaststroke, Tom Guthrie boys 18 yrs and under 50 mtr breaststroke, Joanne Hawkins girls 15 yrs and under 50 mtr backstroke and Jessica Stephens girls 15 yrs and under 50 mtr butterfly (P.B. 37.00).
Ben Collins boys 15 yrs and under 50 mtr butterfly (P.B.38.44), Scott Kendall boys 18 yrs and under 50 mtr backstroke and 50 mtr freestyle. Tom Pearce boys 18 yrs and under 50 mtr butterfly.

Those swimmers claiming 3rd place wins were the 12 yrs and under mixed freestyle relay team, Nicola Crouch girls 4 x 25 mtr individual medley (P.B.1.57.75), Joe Wall boys 9 yrs and under 50 mtr breaststroke, Lydia Scott girls 18 yrs and under 4 x 25 mtr individual medley and Jessica Stephens girls 18 yrs and under 50 mtr buterfly.

Other swimmers with personal best times were Blaine Ramsden in the boys 50 mtr breaststroke (54.74) and 50 mtr freestyle (38.94). Alice Searley girls 50 mtr backstroke (52.84), Cordelia Sigurdsson girls 50 mtr butterfly (43.74) and 50 mtr freestyle (38.59). Rebecca Crouch girls 50 mtr breaststroke (48.45), Marty Boorman boys 50 mtr breaststroke (45.74), Ben Collins boys 50 mtr backstroke (39.46) and 50 mtr freestyle (33.93).

The competitions final placings were winning club Black Lion with 262 points, 2nd place were Folkestone on 257 points, 3rd place Dover 244 points, 4th place Faversham 218 points, 5th place Ashford 197 and 6th place Hythe 178 points.

Safeguarding and Protecting Children Policy

Faversham Swimming Club is committed to a club environment in which all children* participating in its activities has a safe and positive experience.

In order to achieve this the club agrees to:

a) Adopt and implement the ASA Wavepower 2009/11 policy in full.

b) Recognise that all children participating in the club (regardless of age, gender, race, religion, sexual orientation, ability or disability) have a right to enjoy their involvement in swimming and be protected from harm and be in a safe environment

c) Ensure that those individuals, who work with children in the club, whether paid or voluntary, provide a positive, safe and enjoyable experience for children.

d)  Appoint a Club Welfare Officer with the necessary skills and training as outlined by the ASA who will take the lead in dealing with all child safeguarding matters raised within the club.

e)  Ensure that the club Welfare Officers name and contact details are known to all staff, members and parents*of members and be available to discuss issues of concern on matters of safeguarding and deal with such concerns appropriately and in line with Wavepower 2009/11 guidance.

f)  Ensure all those persons who work with children in the club have undertaken the appropriate training and relevant CRB checks and adhere to the required practices for safeguarding children as outlined in Wavepower 2009/11.

g) Ensure that all individuals who work with children in the club have the appropriate training and codes of conduct and good practice to follow in line with the guidance in Wavepower 2009/11.

h) Provide all club members and parents of members with the opportunity to raise concerns in a safe and confidential manner if they have a concern about a child’s welfare or protection.

i) Ensure that all child safeguarding matters, whether they be concerns about child welfare or protection, are dealt with appropriately in accordance with the guidance for reporting and action in Wavepower 2009/11.

j) Ensure that confidentiality is maintained appropriately and in line with the best interests of the child.

k) Ensure all papers relating to child safeguarding matters are held in a safe and secure manner.


*Children are referring to all persons under the age of 18.
“Parents” is anyone who has parental responsibility for the child concerned
