Records roll as Guthrie grabs the goodies 

Faversham Swimming Club caused a quake at the recent Margate Open Age Group Meet where records went tumbling.

No less than twenty of Faversham’s finest swimmers pushed boundaries and gave the spectators an Open Meet to remember. Personal best times were sent crashing as the swimmers pressed throttles and produced some remarkable races.

Young James Guthrie’s speedy burst in the boys 11 years 50 metre breaststroke broke both the Margate Open and Faversham’s own home record in a blistering time of 39.31. Whilst James’s older brother Tom broke the boys 13 years 50 metre breaststroke home record in a time of 37.73.

James’s record breaking breaststroke sprint earned him a gold medal position. He also claimed gold in the 50 metre freestyle, Tom Guthrie scooped gold in the boys 13 years 100 metre individual medley. Tom also clinched silver in the 50 metre backstroke race and the 50 metre breaststroke.

Bronze was awarded to Joe Wall in the boys 9 years 50 metre butterfly. He also took fourth place in the 50 metre breaststroke and 100 metre individual medley in a personal best time of 1.42.85. Tom Guthrie claimed fourth place in the boys 13 years 50 metre freestyle. Fifth place was awarded to Nicola Crouch in the girls 9 years 50 metre breaststroke and sixth place winners were James Guthrie boys 11 years 50 metre butterfly ( Personal best time 42.33 ). Whilst Lydia Scott scooped her 6th place medals in the girls 13 years 50 metre breaststroke and 100 metre individual medley.

Other swimmers with personal best times were Dervla Murphy girls 50 metre freestyle (44.54), Emily Ing 50 metre freestyle (50.86), breaststroke (59.98), backstroke (57.24) and butterfly (59.49). Molly McKenna girls 50 metre freestyle (37.24), backstroke (43.75) and breaststroke (51.35), Flora Westlake girls 50 metre freestyle (36.52). Georgia Collins girls 50 metre backstroke(44.85), Olivia Hawkins girls 50 metre freestyle (37.68), Alice Searley girls 100 metre individual medley (1.40.07), Keeley Wrench girls 50 metre backstroke (46.58). Nicole Collins girls 50 metre freestyle (38.55), Rebecca Crouch girls 50 metre freestyle (34.49), Marty Boorman boys 50 metre butterfly (41.91) and 100 metre individual medley (1.29.52), Tom Guthrie boys 50 metre butterfly (37.39) and Jasmine Locke girls 50 metre freestyle (37.55).

Clubs participating in the Open were Ashford Town, Beachfield, Beacon, 1066, Beckenham, Black Lion, Bromley, City of Canterbury, Dover Lifeguard, Faversham, Folkestone, Herne Bay, Hythe Aqua, Kings School Canterbury, Maidstone, Margate, Orpington, Rochester and Thanet.
